Free October Pattern: Warou Slouch Beanie

October is here! Introducing our free October pattern, the Warou Slouch Beanie

Warou, also known as the Welcome Bird, is a small but nimble species of bird known for symbolising change and the arrival of new seasons. Warou can be found predominately around water such as lakes, coasts, riverbeds and ponds.

In Māori culture, this beautiful bird is seen as a symbol of good luck and fortune. This comes from the belief that Warou helps to guide travellers home safely on their journey so if you see one when exploring around New Zealand, it’s your lucky day! This bird can often be seen across lots of traditional art and jewellery with their message of hope and renewal.

These birds are beautiful and extremely elegant when flying meaning they are quite easy to spot when they’re exploring around. Their beautiful bright feathers are such a sight to behold!

Inspired by the wonderful colours of the Warou Bird this Air Chunky slouch beanie is the perfect knit to get started on this October!
