Free July Pattern: Kororā Mittens

July is here! To keep the good times rolling, complete your Kororā set with the Kororā Mittens.

Local legend has it that the name, meaning ‘sweet blue penguin’ originated in Russell in the Bay of Islands in New Zealand’s far north. The story of the Māori name kororā came from a wounded Māori chief who had enjoyed some penguin broth and at the first taste of the broth he exclaimed ‘Ka reka te Kororā!’ meaning ‘the penguin is sweet.’

Much like the two-tone slate-blue and white colours of the beautiful little penguins, our mittens feature wonderful contrasting colour blocks. These mittens are very simple to create and come together quite quickly, so you won’t have to wait too long to keep your hands warm!
